First off, I'll mention our local band opening act: A Beautiful Nightmare. They were pretty awesome and energetic. In the beginning, the crowd wasn't so enthusiastic, which is understandable because they wanted the main acts to begin, but I think A Beautiful Nightmare did their job as an opening act and got the crowd pumped. They made the crowd move and even start a mosh pit.
Their sound is as energetic as their stage presence. Instrumentally and vocally, A Beautiful Nightmare kept the fans entertained, and the fans gave their own positive response.
Modern Day Escape took the stage afterwards. They were my favorite act of the night, I must admit. The guys had so much energy and it transfered to the crowd. Nearly everyone put their hands in the air and jumped and moshed. Modern Day Escape set out to entertain, and they did a damn good job of it. I really enjoyed their enthusiasm. They were all over the stage and giving everything they could to the fans.
Some of the songs performed: Beauty Killed the Beast, One Way to Kill a Warewolf, Let's Get Sweaty, Maybe Holding Hands Wasn't Such a Good Idea
I was shoved, squished, stepped on, and jumped over, but, hells, it was worth every damn second. During "Maybe Holding Hands Wasn't Such a Good Idea," I was singing my heart out, and James Vegas noticed me (or at least, I think it was me) and kind of reached out towards me. That made me really excited. I also touched Nic and his guitar.
After the concert, I had the chance to meet all the members and get autographs. James Vegas thanked me for singing along, and that made me feel extremely proud to be one of their fans. It was fun meeting Corey. He complained about how his face was covered up on the poster. It was quite adorable. Marti, Shep, and Nic were cool, too. They said they enjoyed and really appreciated the crowd's energy. Marti brought out a little panda plush a fan gave him as a "get well" for his hurt eye and let me pet it. Then they were really sweet and gave me hugs. I think this entire band has character and great personality, and I will definitely see them in concert again.
Vampires Everywhere! then appeared and produced an epic performance. The crowd drenched themselves with excitement when they finally took the stage. I think that can attest to how great this band is. They had a wicked stage presence, though they didn't travel across the stage as much as some of the other bands. The fan still tried to push forward as much as possible, trying for that elusive grasp of one of the members. I swear, when the fans up front did get a hold on Michael Vampire, they tried to rip his shirt off or pull him from the stage.
Two of the songs I definitely remember them playing: Immortal Love, The Embrace
The heat was stifling and sweat poured off our skin. By this time, I was trying to breath while singing and shoving against the rowdy crowd. It was so hard to breath, but the concert experience is worth it.
I met Michael Vampire after the show -- really, I kind of ran into him at the door on my way out and said something that may have been incoherent to get his attention. I gave him a drawing that I made, and he seemed so excited about it. My hands were shaking from nerves and adrenaline. I was in awe that he liked it so much and even gave me a compliment. I got his autograph after that, and he gave me a hug. It was all so (evilly) adorable.
Get Scared rocked the venue next. If it was possible, there was even more energy buzzing through the crowd. I pretty sure everybody was as hot and tired as I was (I really don't know how I was still standing), but we all jumped and sang along with renewed force. Get Scared jumped right into the music and made us move. They really dominated the stage, especially under the blacklights, which made for awesome effects on their clothes.
Some of the songs performed: You Are What You Are, Lock the Doors, If Only She Knew Voodoo Like I Do, Setting Yourself Up For Sarcasm, The Finer Things
At the end of Get Scared's set, James Vegas of MDE joined them on stage and screamed along. Then Johnny B kicked the performance up a notch at the end by stage diving into the crowd. That made for a very memorable moment for me. He landed just to the right of my roommate and me. I think I briefly touched his arm, but there were some many others holding onto him that I can't be 100%. Either way, it's enough I got to see them and experience that moment.
Black Veil Brides finished the night spectacularly. A black curtain blocked our view as they set up, which really made the crowd's anticipation rise. The fans would chant their name, they teased us by playing their instruments along with the beat. The set up was taking so long that it felt like a riot would break out anytime among the fans. Some even chanted "drop the fuckin' curtain." The wait was well worth it when the sheet was finally dropped and the music started.
Some of the songs performed: Heaven's Calling, Perfect Weapon, Children Surrender, Sweet Blasphemy, Knives and Pens, The Mortician's Daughter, We Stitch These Wounds
They could not have performed better. Everything was amazing, despite how tired we all were. Black Veil Brides showed so much energy and the fans screamed and jumped right back at them. Andy Six was so sweet when he talked to the fans, thanking them for all their support.
They had an official signing session right after the concert. Sadly, we could not bask in their awesomely presence because of time constraints, but it was still breathtaking to actually talk to them and say thanks for an amazing performance.
Concert afterthoughts: I really enjoyed seeing all of these bands, especially since it was at a small venue. There were only a hundred and something people shoved in a small room. Big festival events like Pointfest and Warped Tour can't compare to the feeling one gets at a concert like this. Everybody is packed together, like some tight-knit family, and there is a connection and feeling of closeness to the bands.
Now that it's past the morning after, I'm still uber in awe of last night. I keep replaying the best moments over and over in my head. My neck and throat hurt and my toes are still numb, but any pain is well worth going to that concert. I'd experience the pain again and again if I could see the Sacred Ceremony Tour again.
My roommate and I are thinking of getting tattoos about this experience, to commemorate the memories and new friends we made.
Kill me Softly in the Cruelest Way Possible,
